Travel Planner

A Portuguese national and an ardent mountain lover; strange it may seem for person from this Iberian nation to be passionate about climbing. But he is just that, and he has been climbing since the last two decades and is a qualified sports technician in climbing from High Mountaineering School in Spain and Belgium, both recognized by UIAA. He leads various groups in climbs throughout the world mainly in the Andes, Alaska, the Atlas and the Himalayan peaks where he has climbed and trekked extensively. He has several successful ascents to his credit including Cho Oyu, Gasherbrum II and Mount Everest, all without bottled oxygen and unassisted, making him the first Portuguese to achieve this feat. He has been accorded several awards and has published many books on mountaineering, the most prominent among them being “A Mais Alta Solidão”, which is already in its 7th edition. He has received the “Fair Play” award for the year 1999, by deliberation of the Executive commission of the Portuguese Olympic Committee and was acknowledged as the “sports man of the year” by the Portuguese Sports Confederation.

Travel Planner

He traveled around the world for many years on inaccessible ways to meet people. He leaves on an adventure, guided by events and encounters. Thus, he has traveled the Nepalese Himalayas, rallying the foothills of Kanchenjunga to Mount Kaïlash in Tibet, crossed the Cordillera of Peru, the Mongolian steppes or the large area of Nunavik. Jean-Michel Jorda likes people who speak about their territories. He tries to be a link through his documentaries.

KHUMBILA FOUNDATION

From each trek we operate we donate a small amount to support the Khumbila Foundation that is involved in reconstruction of Thadi Village, which was devastated by the earthquake. It is non-profit non- governmental organization that works for the welfare of the mountain communities and the conservation of the Nepalese Himalayas. The vision of the foundation is to use tourism as a tool for the promotion and conservation of the mountains and its culture. Presently it is actively involved in earthquake relief and rehabilitation. We support the “Nepal Guide Program” program, which is an initiative to produce Nepalese mountain guides who are also ski mountaineering trained - a discipline in which our guides lack. We conduct this program is conducted in collaboration Nepal Mountaineering Assocaition, Nepal Olympic Committee and Nepal Ski Association. Jean Michel Jorda, Paul Matheiu Fritsch and renowned American free style skier Glen Plake are the international instructors who teach the Nepalese Mountain Guides
